Regarding Robert Robinson

I've been reading up on the guy who wrote the hymn I posted the other day, turns out he was born in swaffham! I think its rather cool that the words of a song that I like so much was written by a norfolk lad, got popular in american, was then recorded by the David Crowder Band and then by Sufjan Stevens which I then listened to a few hundred years later.

However, I feel kinda tragically, it doesn't seem to have worked out quite as well for Robert as I would have hoped.

Robinson’s widowed mother sent him at age 14 to London, to learn the trade of barber and hair dresser. However, his master found he enjoyed reading more than work. Converted to Christ at age 17, Robinson became a Methodist minister. He later moved to the Baptist church and pastored in Cambridge, England. He wrote a number of hymns, as well as on the subject of theology. His later life was evidently not an easy one, judging from a well known story about his hymn “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing.” One day, he encountered a woman who was studying a hymnal, and she asked how he liked the hymn she was humming. In tears, he replied, “Madam, I am the poor unhappy man who wrote that hymn many years ago, and I would give a thousand worlds, if I had them, to enjoy the feelings I had then.”
Happy new year btw.

Videojug

Ok, it's saturday afternoon and I've just brough some straighteners. Why? Well, in an effort to be more 'holy' I thought I would try and be more like 'holy' people I know of, these being...well, pretty much every person I know who goes to The Church Formally Known As Mount Zion and Proclaimers. So, I got home, lock my bike up and came up to my room only to realise I don't actually have a clue what I'm doing! Lucky for me, Videojug was invented! So, I looked it up, found out how to straighten hair and then promptly got distracted by two very funny videos.

Please enjoy!

Surjan Stevens Presents songs for Christmas

There is a song on this album, track 3 on CD 2 called Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing and it seems to sum me up so very well.

Below is a video with the lyrics below that.

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love

Here I raise my Ebenezer
Here there by Thy great help I’ve come
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure
Safely to arrive at home
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
He, to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

O to grace how great a debtor
Daily I’m constrained to be
Let that grace now, like a fetter
Bind my wandering heart to Thee
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart, oh, take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it
Mount of Thy unchanging love

It seems to (no, it does) sum up my head pretty much all the time. What a great song!

Oh, and I've just remembered, the album comes with the chords for all the songs so you can sing and play along at home!

Christmas Gifts

I'm chuffed to bits. I don't usually like getting christmas presents, don't really see the point, this years were fantastic!

Victor Wooten live at Bass Day 98' from Andrew. This guy does an superb version of amazing grace using harmonics to a silly degree!
Raving Rabbids from Emma. Haven't quite got a chance to play this yet due to my family be round but will blitz it very soon! :)
Ben Folds with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra live in Perth from Jonathan. An amazing show, watched it last night.
Surjan Stevens Presents songs for Christmas. Got this in the post from my friend Annie and I love it! It has stickers, comics and 5 CD's! I listened to some of it yesterday and I love the quietness of some of the songs. I'll definately be posting again about this later.
Bass strings from Pete & Laura (along with some Dave socks!) Pete has a bit of a habit of getting me things that he wants so this was quite cool!

An ironing board from mum, I got kinda sick of ironing in the lounge so this is perfect.

December 25th

Mornin' all.

I might have said this already, but I've really been looking forward to this Christmas.

This year really has been a time for us as a family to bond.
It started with last Christmas, Andrew, Pete and Laura (Pete's then Fiance) had just got back from Oz. It had been a year since we were all together so being together again meant a whole lot more than in previous years.

Then there was Pete and Laura's wedding. I can remember the morning of the wedding, the air of excitement, the banter, the weather (it was a perfect day!), the drive to the church, conversations about how weird it all was. I was really proud to be one of four brothers, I finally felt accepted. Then there was the rest of my family. Cousins, second cousins and lots of little kids to play with! It was awesome. It completely brought us all closer together (which reminds me, must remember to email a picture to everyone tomorrow and wish them merry christmas!)

Then there the the groove armada gig with my brothers, I've never EVER laughed before. We talked about growing up, pass injuries (- like the time Pete and I tried to pull down a young sapling tree in a local woods. Some kids had already ripped its branches and all the remained was it's very flexible trunk. I can remember hangin underneath using my weight to try and pull it over while Pete pushed it down. At some point I decided it was a wise idea to let go, it was at this point the tree pinged up hit Pete square in the face. I'm gonna have to post a video showing you how it reacted, it was beautiful. Blood went everywhere and we walked back to my grannies, him crying, me trying not to laugh!so much until I cried so much) our Dad and how all we had was each other, Pete's unborn child (due in April), everything. It was a great evening!

And then there was Christmas eve. After months of feeling really goog about it all, it almost seemed to crumble away. Andrew wasn't in the best of moods and Jonathan was feeling ill and had gone to bed. Mum and I talked in the kitchen til about 2:30am about the next day.

It is tradition that we go to Mum's church for the morning service, this has a tendancy to cause stress. Firstly because Jonathan isn't a christian, secondly because we see people that we'd rather not, thirdly its a cliche that we only go one day a year, forthly I can't stand that church, the morning service seems to just be the same bad carols, the same bad jokes and the same uncomfortable 45 minutes of clock watching. So then Mum said something I didn't ever expect, she decided not to go. We've been going every Christmas of my life and as much as I can't stand it, I almost missed it! However, this christmas day, instead of rushing about, getting there late, arriving home with tempers rising, we took the morning quite chilled. Andrew was still kinda gruff and Jonathan was still in bed feeling ill so I prayed. Well, actually, I prayed the night before and pretty much every time I went into Jonathan's room to check on him. The day progressed, Pete and Laura arrived, we sat down for Christmas dinner and everything seemed just right. We opened our presents together, one at a time and enjoyed the feeling of giving and recieving. I just asked Jonathan how he is and he feels "alot better", Andrew went to bed a bit earlier than everyone else as he is driving to work in london tomorrow morning. But all in all, it's been a really good day. Thank God! I mean it, I'm thanking him because he heard my crys and intervened. Yeah, I feel god right now.

Visual Basic

I (with a little help) made my first macro today.

I was so happy about it I brought it home to play with, only to find my version of office isn't FREAKIN' COMPATIBLE! I felt like a geek even though is was really basic stuff. This made me happy.

Also, in other news...

Stupid England

I watched the beginning of 'Dispatches: How safe are your Christmas toys?' this evening and couldn't help but slap my forehead and change the channel in annoyance.

They were saying an dangerous magnets are and how children shouldn't be allowed to play with them. This all stemmed from that fact a rather stupid young girl decided to swallow some when she was about 8 (she is now 13) and then her mother wondered why she got internal injuries.

Maybe glass and razor blades should come with health warnings "do not feed to children", more so, maybe we should start warning people about the dangers of being run over by a jcn or licking the inner workings of pc while it's switched on?

I want to be more like me

I've been having a re-read of the stuff I've written on here since I started and I've concluded I'm not who I used to be. In a way I feel I've taken steps back in who I am, I mean, was I always this whiny? I was having a chat to Phil a few weeks ago and he said to me "Dave, get over yourself!". It sunk in a few days later and I realised it was exactly what I needed to hear.

Life just seems in neutral at the moment, nothing is going on, it just seems like its sleep work sleep work. Yes there are gaps in the middle but I don't seem to be filling them with anything.

Although, I have played my guitar this evening and made a nice noise. ta da.
